My First Front Page!Sadly on the 21 October 2014 the business near where I live had a major fire that caused a lot of damage. Thankfully nobody was hurt, but for a while it was a concern that the fire could spread. The trees in our back garden began to smoulder and burn so it was a great relief when the fire service arrived. Even with the reassurance from the firemen my other half commented that she grabbed our daughter, while I grabbed my camera. Once I knew nobody was hurt or at risk I felt the need to document the event. It was part of the history of my family's life in our house. I took a series of images both during the fire and of the aftermath and when I viewed them one stood out. I think it captured the spirit of the fire fighters. Even as a lone figure he still walks towards the burning building, towards the bright light and heat of a fire hot enough to warp steel and cause live trees to reach flash point.

I felt it was such a strong image I wanted to share it so I offered it to the local paper in case they were running the story. I never imagined that I would walk into my local major supermarket on Thursday morning to see my picture adorning a front page on the news stand.
Mixed emotions in that I wish the subject had been something more cheerful and not associated with loss to a business, but very proud that a newspaper editor deemed my work worthy of a front page.
